Bill Murray

Acropora. Expert to keep, Typical PAR 200–350, high flow.

Rarity tier: rare, reviewed 2026-08.

A named Acropora strain from Top Shelf Aquatics, sold aquacultured and usually as an inch or less of frag. Its pigments shift hard with spectrum and with nutrients, which is why vendor photographs of it disagree with each other and why no colour is given here.

How to tell it is the real thing

Photographed under blues, half the Acropora in the trade look like this one, and a coral whose colour moves with the lighting is the worst possible thing to buy from a blue photograph. Ask for a shot under white light before paying a rare-tier price, and treat a seller who will not take one as having answered the question. What you are buying is the lineage and the grow-out, so the useful questions are how long this frag has been off the mother colony and what it was grown under.

Keeping Acropora

High light and strong random flow, up in the rockwork. Bill Murray is expert to keep at a typical PAR of 200–350 in high flow. A typical starting range for this type of coral rather than a measured requirement for this morph. Spectrum, how it was acclimated and the system it grew in all move it.

What Bill Murray goes for

No verified sales yet. A range publishes once 3 dated, checkable records from 3 different sources exist, priced per frag and reported as a median, with what shops ask kept separate from what buyers paid.
