Favites, an LPS coral. Beginner to keep, typical PAR 80–150, moderate flow.
A loose trade name. Sellers use it loosely, so trust the photo over the label.

An Australian brain-type coral sold as a Favia, though the one writer to look at its genus calls it likely a Favites of no settled species. Its look is three zones: a bright green centre to each corallite, a dark purple inner ring, and red on the upper ridges, with a bright green edge where the colony is growing. It reached the US trade from Australia in 2007, and the more colourful form is said to come from the shallow Great Barrier Reef.
Look for the purple ring. Green centres in red is the War Coral pattern; a Dragon Soul puts a dark purple ring between the green and the red ridge, and the farm that first sold it says the red varies with the coral's health. A few shops describe orange, gold or yellow mouths instead, and one seller admitted the name was just what he was given, so judge the colours over the label. The first farm's line was retired in 2010 because it did not recover well from fragmentation; today's pieces come from the many colonies imported since.
Sandbed or low rock with room around it, and it takes food. Dragon Soul Favia is beginner to keep at a typical PAR of 80–150 in moderate flow. A typical starting range for this type of coral, not measured on this one.
