A Stylophora pistillata strain with a deep purple body and crisp white growth tips, on the thick, blunt-ended branches the species is known for, which thicken toward submassive as a colony ages. The polyps extend by day and give an open colony a soft, fuzzy outline. Hood coral, in the older books: the corallites are hooded and sunk below the surface rather than standing proud as an acro's do. It is a long-kept aquacultured line, sold under one name across the trade.
White tips on purple, and the branch. A Stylophora branch is stubby and blunt and much thicker than a Birds Nest's needle, so a purple coral with fine, tapering branches is a Seriatopora sold under the dearer name. Then the tips: a Milka's growth points are white against the purple with a hard edge between them; a plain purple Stylophora is purple to the tip, or pink under low nutrients. Fresh frags often show the tips faintly and colour up over weeks, so a shop's photo of a mother colony is the honest reference, not the frag on the plug.
Less light than an acro, more flow than anything, and nothing touching it. Milka Stylophora is intermediate to keep at a typical PAR of 200–350 in high flow.
