Names that contain “Purple Lokani” and are not this coral: 20,000 Leagues, 20000 Leagues, 20K Leagues, 30,000 Leagues, Banana Lokani, Larry the Lokani. They are separate corals traded at their own prices, so read the animal rather than the label.
A smooth-skinned Acropora lokani whose sturdy main branches run horizontally, often into a low table or cushion, with short upright branchlets each ending in a large tube-shaped corallite. The purple form is brown to cream at the centre, and the purple deepens and brightens toward the branch tips.
A species sold under a colour, not one strain: several unrelated farms sell purple lokani. It is the coral one keeper bought as a Purple Monster, which is the useful warning. A Tyree Purple Monster is solid purple all over with white polyps, grown as a dense christmas tree of thick branches; a lokani spreads flat, carries its purple at the tips over a brown to cream centre, and often colours best lower in the tank. Slow, and hard to frag.
