A slow-growing Acropora of solid, deep purple to magenta tissue over smooth, thick branches, grown as a dense christmas-tree shape, with white to pale bluish polyps most visible toward the tips. Under very strong light the purple can lighten toward pink.
White polyps on solid deep purple is the calling card, with thick smooth branches and very slow growth. The line runs from one colony Steve Tyree imported from the Solomon Islands in 1995, through a handful of keepers, to his farm's limited releases from 2003. A wild coral collected from the same area in 2024 is sold as Solomon Islands Purple Monster, and its own seller says it is not the original; the look is the same by design, so only lineage back to Tyree settles it. Purple with green polyps is a GARF Bonsai, and the Purple Monster zoa only shares the name.
