Micromussa lordhowensis, a acan. Beginner to keep, Typical PAR 50–120, low to moderate flow.
Also sold as Acan Lord, Rainbow Lord.
Rarity tier: rare, reviewed 2026-08.
Reclassified out of Acanthastrea into Micromussa in 2016 on DNA and skeletal microstructure, but the trade still says acan. Corallites up to about 15mm across, carrying fleshy polyps that expand considerably wider than that, each banded concentrically, usually two contrasting shades drawn from red, orange, purple, blue and green.
Price is per head and heads vary enormously in size. A four-head frag of small heads can be less coral than a two-head frag. 'Rainbow' is one named morph of this species among many others sold under their own names, so it describes a colourway rather than a lineage.
Low rock, gentle flow, and it feeds heavily. Rainbow Acan is beginner to keep at a typical PAR of 50–120 in low to moderate flow. A typical starting range for this type of coral rather than a measured requirement for this morph. Spectrum, how it was acclimated and the system it grew in all move it.
No verified sales yet. A range publishes once 3 dated, checkable records from 3 different sources exist, priced per head and reported as a median, with what shops ask kept separate from what buyers paid. One head is one polyp of a branching LPS. A five-head piece is divided by five before it is compared to anything. Nothing on this page is for sale. Shops are typically asking $14 to $24 per head, median $16, across 3 shops surveyed on 2026-09-07; the full sweep ran $12 to $32. Asking prices are what sellers want, not what buyers paid.
