A Seriatopora whose branches stay the same thickness all the way out and end in rounded, blunt tips, rather than the needle points of the common Birds Nest. It grows as a bushy clump and is usually sold tan to cream with green polyps, which are often out during the day. In the wild it is S. caliendrum, found mostly on shallow upper reef slopes.
Look at the tip, not the girth. A Birds Nest grown in strong water movement gets stubby too, so thickness alone proves little; a branch that keeps its width to a rounded end is the caliendrum shape, and one that tapers to a point is S. hystrix. The polyps are a second check: caliendrum often has them out by day, a Birds Nest keeps them in. Some shops sell green Birds Nest as Green Birdsnest, so a green frag with needle tips is not this one.
Less light than an acro, more flow than anything, and nothing touching it. Thick Branch Birdsnest is intermediate to keep at a typical PAR of 250–400 in moderate to high flow. A typical starting range for this type of coral, not measured on this one.
