Names that contain “Bubble Coral” and are not this coral: Pearl Bubble, Bubble Coral Pearl. They are separate corals traded at their own prices, so read the animal rather than the label.
A colonial LPS whose tentacles are modified into oval, grape-sized vesicles that inflate by day and cover the whole skeleton, usually white, cream, tan or green and sometimes yellow or bluish. At night the bubbles contract to show tapered feeding tentacles, and it puts out long sweeper tentacles, three or four inches, that sting anything within reach. Under the bubbles is a skeleton of sharp septa that the vesicles attach to.
The bubbles are fragile and puncture easily, so handle it only by the skeleton, never lift it out of the water fully inflated, and place it where the vesicles cannot chafe against rock or take a blast of flow; too much light keeps it partly closed. Give it several inches of clear space: a neighbour damaged on the side facing it is being stung at night. Pearl Bubble is a different genus, Physogyra, with smaller bubbles, and the trade uses grape, pearl and octobubble for both, so read the genus rather than the nickname. A Bubble Tip Anemone is not a coral at all.
