Light is irrelevant to it. This animal must be target-fed, forever: every other day keeps it alive, daily grows it, and a pipette to each polyp works better than broadcasting. Everything else about it is easy; that one thing is why they die. A new one that stays shut all day is usually still on its night schedule rather than failing, so try feeding after lights out before concluding anything.
